Squalicum falls short of playoffs

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 11, 2014

Squalicum's boys' basketball came close to sneaking into the playoffs, but fell just short and was eliminated following a 68-63 loss to Anacortes on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Anacortes High School. The Storm graduates four seniors from the roster this season.

The teams alternated successful quarters, but Anacortes stole the show in the final quarter.

"We made a couple of mistakes that were very costly," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "My guys played their hearts out, though. We didn't lose because of a lack of effort, that's for sure."

In typical fashion, Blake Youtsey led the Storm with 28 points, including six 3-pointers.

"Youtsey was hitting from all over," Dickson said. "It's too bad we fell short, but that's a very good basketball team."

The Storm end their season with an 11-9 record.
