Turnovers doom Lummi girls in loss

Lummi's girls' basketball team was plagued by turnovers as they lost 56-11 to Lopez in the first consolation round of the Class 1B Northwest District Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Lopez. The Blackhawks were led by Issabella James' five points.

"Issabella has been a strong leader as a senior. She's been great all season," Lummi coach Randy Kaui said in a phone interview.

Lummi had 36 turnovers in the game, to just 17 from Lopez. Sarah Burke had just two points, but added 10 blocks for Lummi.

"Sarah was blocking shots left and right. She did a great job policing the paint," Kaui said. "I'm proud of these girls and excited to see what they can do next season."
