Quick start for local U-16 skiier

Michael Lindberg, a U-16 skiier who used to live in Bellingham, is off to a hot start this year. Lindberg took second in his age group and fifth overall at the Alpental Night Slalom on Thursday, Jan. 30, at Snoqualmie Pass.

Lindberg took fifth in the slalom and six in the giant slalom at the Western Regional Championships on Jan. 18-20 at Mt. Spokane.

He has two more races before the Western Regional Championships March 19-23, in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

SKI TO SEA OPENS REGISTRATION

Registration for the 2014 Ski to Sea Race has opened online at skitosea.com/content/race_guide/registration.asp.

The cost for the race, which is held May 25 this year, is $59.79 per racer until March 16. For high school racers the cost is $27.17 per racer and the corporate cost is $65.22 per racer. Teams are only guaranteed a spot once all eight racers have paid.

SPEEDSKATING CLUB WELCOMES NEW PARTICIPANTS

The Whatcom Speed Skating Club is welcoming drop-in participants to its Tuesday night skating sessions. The meetings are at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday at the Bellingham Sportsplex.

The cost to attend for the first three sessions is $10 per adult or $5 per child. Skate rental is included in the cost for the first three sessions. After the first three sessions the cost is $150 for the Winter session and $50 to rent skates.

Participants are asked to bring their own bike or skate helmet, cut-resistant or leather gloves, kneepads, a neck guard and safety glasses. To regularly join the club all skaters must be members of U.S. Speedskating. For more information, visit whatcomspeedskatingclub.com.
