Whatcom County burn ban ends Tuesday morning

Posted by CALEB HUTTON on February 10, 2014

A burn ban for rural Whatcom County ends at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Rain soaked the region Monday afternoon, snapping a dry streak that led to several serious grass fires around the county.

In the meantime, four people have been cited for illegal burning since late last week, said Mitch Nolze, a fire investigator.

Two of those cases — one off North Star Road, by Birch Bay, and another off Innis Creek Road, by Acme — have been forwarded to the county prosecutor's office for possible charges of reckless burning.
