Turnovers doom Borderites in loss to Burlington-Edison

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 7, 2014

Blaine's boys' basketball team started and finished strong, but couldn't sustain its offense in the middle of its 80-52 loss to Burlington-Edison on Friday, Feb. 7, at Burlington-Edison High School. The Borderites were led by Sean Herrig's 12 points.

"We played a good first quarter; we were only down by one. Then they went to a full-court press and we just couldn't protect the basketball," Blaine coach Lydell Eigenbrood said in a phone interview. "Herrig continues to be our leader out there and Jalen Kortlever is starting to be an improved scorer (nine points)."

Isaak Davies and Rudy Mataya led the Tigers with 19 points each.

Anthony Ball added seven points and eight rebounds for Blaine. The Borderites committed 30 turnovers in the game.

Blaine takes on Friday Harbor in the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Friday Harbor.
