THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 7, 2014

Reuben Murashov dominated and Mount Baker's boys' basketball team defeated Bellingham 79-66 on Friday, Feb. 7, at Mount Baker.

Murashov scored 35 points, including 24 in the second half, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Murashov also sank four 3-pointers.

"He basically took over the game in the second half," Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview.

The Mountaineers were down 36-28 at halftime, but a halftime talk focused on defense spurred Baker to outscore Bellingham 51-30 in the second half.

"We talked about shoring up defensive effort and playing with energy," Gray said. "We made sure we competed and continued to keep moving the ball to find the open man."

Bellingham's Ryan Fox sank five 3-pointers of his own on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Hoffstetter also put up nine assists for the Red Raiders.

Mount Baker (3-17, NWC 2-10) plays King's on Monday, Feb. 10, for the first round of the 1A district tournament.
