LUMMI RESERVATION - The Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa has announced plans to add a new hotel tower and meeting space, with a groundbreaking scheduled for later this month.

Expansion plans include adding 100 hotel rooms, increasing the total number of rooms to 205. The project will also add 3,000 square feet of meeting space, an expanded hotel lobby and a new bar.

According to a news release, Silver Reef will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with the project taking about 16 months to complete. With that timetable, the project would be done around June 2015.

This marks the sixth expansion of the resort since Silver Reef's original grand opening in 2002. The most recent expansion included a new event center, restaurant and additional slot machines.

"It's great to see that this new construction will provide more jobs, which will help grow the economy for the greater region, said Lummi Nation Chairman Tim Ballew II in a news release.
