The Nooksack Valley girls' basketball team defeated Sedro-Woolley 45-28 on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Sedro-Woolley in a Northwest Conference matchup.

The Pioneers got 13 points and three assists from Mariah Perry, and Emilia Gimmaka added nine points.

Nooksack Valley held the Cubs to 8-of-39 shooting in the game, and it never allowed them to score more than seven points in any one quarter.

"I thought defensively we did a real nice job," Pioneers coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. "We held them to three baskets in the first half, and for the game they only made three 2-pointers. We're really happy with our defense heading into the postseason."

Nooksack Valley finished the regular season 14-6 overall, 6-6 in the NWC. The Pioneers open against Blaine in the first round of the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament at Blaine at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
