The Whatcom Community College men's basketball team earned a 76-68 NWAACC North Region victory Wednesday, Feb. 5, at home over Skagit Valley College.

Kyle Impero had 40 points and nine rebounds for Whatcom but WCC coach David Dunham said it was still about the team.

"Everybody played tonight and everybody contributed good minutes," Dunham said in a phone interview as he highlighted defense as key in the offense-happy league. "Our team defense was awesome tonight. That's going to be our goal, getting better defensively going into the playoffs."

Alex Duncan had 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Whatcom, which only has five regular-season games remaining.

The Orcas are in a three-way tie with Skagit Valley and Bellevue atop the NWAACC North with a 7-1 record in the region. They are 14-5 overall.

The Orcas have a 7 p.m. game Saturday, Feb. 8, at Edmonds.
