Whatcom real estate sales in January top previous year

January is typically a slow month for Whatcom County real estate, and 2014 was no different.

Last month local real estate agents sold 148 homes and condominiums, six more than January 2013, according to data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. January and February tend to be the slowest months of the year, with sales in the spring and summer months typically in the 200-250 unit range.

The median price of the local homes and condos sold was $251,750 last month, up 7.1 percent compared to a year earlier.

Across the 21 counties the NWMLS service, 4,306 houses and condos sold last month, up less than 1 percent compared to a year earlier. The median price was $255,055, up 6.6 percent.
