Squalicum boys top league-leading Lyncs

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 4, 2014

Damek Mitchell posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists as Squalicum's boys' basketball team defeated Lynden Christian 67-53 on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Squalicum High School.

Blake Youtsey led the Storm in scoring with 19 points.

"Blake played real steady and Damek Mitchell with 12 assists brought energy and shared the ball well. He made a lot of plays," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "We shared the ball from the get-go. It was an unselfish effort on the floor."

Cody Fransen led the Lyncs with 16 points, as Lynden Christian's leading scorers Zach Roetcisoender and Grant Wolffis were held to just a combined 14 points by the Storm defense.

"We knew their tendancies and we executed to make them do things they were less comfortable doing," Dickson said.

Squalicum plays next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at home against Taminawis Secondary, from British Columbia.
