Lions sneak past Ferndale

A one-point second quarter doomed the Ferndale girls' basketball team, as it fell to Lynden 45-44 on Monday, Feb. 3, at Ferndale High School. The Lions were led by Elisa Kooiman's 17 points in the victory.

"We just couldn't float in the ocean," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said of his team's second quarter in a phone interview. "We had a 12-4 lead at one point, then we went 12 minutes without a bucket."

Linsey Honeycutt led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Carlson contributed 11 points and five assists.

Free-throw shooting was the Lions' Achilles heel as they only shot 9 of 26 from the line. Ferndale held Stephanie Somers to just eight points in the contest.

Lynden's next game is against Meridian at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at home. Ferndale plays next at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Anacortes.
