DeRosier wins softball player of the week

Western Washington University's Jenna DeRosier has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for Jan. 26-Feb. 2 and the Viking first baseman Alexie Levin was named Player of the Week.

DeRosier, a senior from Kelso, pitched two complete-game victories, in posting wins over BYU Hawaii, 5-1, and Hawaii Hilo, 6-2. She scattered 10 hits over 14 innings, striking out five and walking four.

Levin, a sophomore from Everett, was 7 for 13, driving in four runs and scoring four. Among her hits were two doubles. She was 5 for 7 against BYU Hawaii with four RBI and three runs scored.

WWU swept the doubleheader with BYU Hawaii, 5-1 and 6-0, and split a twinbill with Hawaii Hilo, winning 6-2 and losing 9-4.

The softball doubleheader between Western Washington University and Hawaii Pacific University on Monday, Feb. 3, was cancelled because of unplayable field conditions. The first game was called after two innings when the downpour started.

The Vikings, 3-1, end their season-opening Hawaiian road trip with a doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. at Chaminade.
