Rave: Inspired by couple's cleanup

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 2, 2014

I have been running for exercise the last 12 months in the Geneva/Bellingham area. One particu-lar area, “Old Lakeway,” has been an eyesore with trash on the side of the road. Anyone who lives in the area knows it well. While running I have often thought about doing something about it but never have. Until now.

You see, I ran into a couple doing just that a week ago. Dick and Peggy Campbell, who happen to own Bellingham Millwork, were there with their “Superior Grabber,” a Christmas gift I hear, picking up all the trash they could. They were doing it because it was the right thing to do. At any rate, these two people so inspired me that I have now ordered my own grabber and will try to pay it forward each week somewhere in the neighborhood as well.

Dick and Peggy, I salute you, respect you, and most of all thank you. It is because of people like you that Whatcom County is such a great place to live. I will try my best to follow your lead.
