Baker girls' defense shuts down Meridian

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 1, 2014

The Mount Baker's girls' basketball team locked down on defense and earned a 63-30 win over Meridian in a Northwest Conference matchup Saturday, Feb. 1, at Mount Baker High School. The Mountaineers were led by Emily Brandland's 20 points and six rebounds.

Korrinna Camacho led the Mount Baker defensive stand with 13 steals. Kylee Engholm added 11 points for Mount Baker.

"We all played really great defensively. A lot of Camacho's steals came from the girls getting after it and she was in the right place at the right time. She definitely hustled," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "Our press took them out of their flow."

Kendra Holmes led the Trojans with 10 points.

Mount Baker plays next at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at home against Anacortes. Meridian takes on Sehome at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at home.
