Ferndale defense leads charge over Oak Harbor

It was all about the defense in Ferndale girls' basketball's 54-24 win over Oak Harbor on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Ferndale.

The Golden Eagles only gave up one two-point basket, six 3 pointers and six free throws.

"We knew they liked to shoot 3s, so we focused on that," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. "When they missed those 3s, we got the rebounds."

Linsey Honeycutt led the rebounding charge with 18 rebounds. She also had nine points. Hannah Carlson led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, including shooting 9 for 9 from the line. Carlson added eight boards.

Another star player for Ferndale was Taryn Knutson, who scored zero points but was tasked with defending Oak Harbor's star player the entire game.

"She was worn out from defending so we weren't expecting her to score," Ivy said. "She played phenomenal."
