Wittenberg, Somers lead Lynden boys over Blaine

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 31, 2014

Lynden's boys' basketball team topped Blaine 67-47 in a Northwest Conference matchup Friday, Jan. 31, at Blaine High School. The Lions were without Scott Hastings and Jalani Phelps, but got 16 points from Jordan Wittenberg in their stead.

Wittenberg hit a team-high four 3-pointers for Lynden, which had 10 as a team. Sterling Somers added 15 points for the Lions.

"Once they got going from the outside, it turned the tide," Blaine assistant coach Lydel Eidenbrood said in a phone interview. "They just don't turn the ball over, so we didn't have a chance to get back in it."

Shaq Woods led the Borderites with 11 points and seven rebounds. Blaine, which was without Josiah Westbrook, also got 11 points from Carson Knutzen.

"Shaq had a very nice game, they had to put a lot of bodies on him to slow him down," Eidenbrood said.

Lynden plays next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at home against Ferndale. Blaine's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Sedro-Woolley.
