Brandland, Yost too much for Squalicum

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 31, 2014

Emily Brandland and Emily Yost combined for 41 points as the Mount Baker girls' basketball team notched a 56-45 win over Squalicum in a Northwest Conference game Friday, Jan. 31, at Squalicum High School. Yost also had 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers.

"Brandland and Yost were very difficult for us," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "We had a plan to deal with them and they still managed to score and get offensive rebounds."

Meghan Lowry led the Storm with 18 points. Lissette Meza had nine points, and Shaunee Hooper added eight points and 11 rebounds.

"Shaunee hit her shots ... she's like a warrior in there, she fought like crazy," Wright said. "She's been a great kid for us, working her butt off and getting rebounds."

Mount Baker will look for another win at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at home against Anacortes. Squalicum tries to get back on the winning track at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Lynden Christian.
