Check, Red Raiders can't get by Tigers

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 31, 2014

Bellingham's boys' basketball team competed but couldn't pick up the win on the road as the Red Raiders fell 70-52 to Burlington-Edison on Friday, Jan. 31, at Burlington-Edison.

"We battled hard in the first half," Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "We were in it but we got in foul trouble and got in weird situations matchup wise."

The Tigers scored 25 "hustle points" (second-chance points and points off turnovers) compared to zero for the Red Raiders, a stat McKay pointed to as the game breaker.

"That's 25 points right there, that's the difference in the game," he said.

Dante Check played well in the victory, though, as he scored 19 points for Bellingham.

"He had a really good night," McKay said. "He shot it well; he was active on the boards. He gave us a great chance to be in it."

Bellingham (7-11, NWC 2-8) faces Nooksack Valley on Monday, Feb. 3, at home.
