Baker's boys wrestling overpowered by Sedro-Woolley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 29, 2014

Mount Baker's boys' wrestling team couldn't pick up the victory in its last regular season match as the Mountaineers fell to Sedro-Woolley 54-17 on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Mount Baker.

Mountaineers' coach Ron Lepper was the first to admit the black and red were overmatched.

"We were a little overpowered but the kids battled," Lepper said in a phone interview. "We went out and wrestled hard."

Despite the sizeable team loss, Baker's Travis Lindsey (170-pound) caught his coach's eye with his 5-1 decision victory over Nate Vaughn.

"Travis lost to Vaughn in the finals of the Northwest Conference Championship a few weeks back," Lepper said. "To come back and get a big win like that is really nice."

Jeremiah Cronk (145) and Jesus Torerro (106) were the other Baker wrestlers who earned victories.

The Mountaineers finished the regular season at 5-2.
