Nooksack Valley surges in second half to earn victory

The Nooksack Valley girls' basketball team had four players score in double figures and used a second-half surge to earn a 51-45 Northwest Conference victory over Anacortes on Monday, Jan. 27, at home.

The Pioneers only had 14 points in the first half but had 21 in the third quarter and 37 in the second half.

"The girls just played with great energy in the second half," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. "The kids are just doing a marvelous job of moving the ball around."

Mariah Perry had 15 points, Cheyanna Maxwell had 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists and Taryn Tenkley and Lindsay Hayes added 10 points each as the Pioneers improved to 11-5 overall and 3-5 in league.

Nooksack Valley has a 7:15 p.m. NWC game at Sehome on Thursday, Jan. 30.
