Pioneers can't pick up first win

Nooksack Valley's boys' basketball team couldn't pick up its first win as the Pioneers fell to Seattle Academy 63-39 on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Seattle.

The Pioneers' bright spot was winning the third quarter 19-12 after being down 41-15 at halftime.

"We came out of halftime and attacked them a bit better," coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview. "We just did a better job of getting out in transition."

Tanner Myhre led the team with 15 points and Josh Gimmaka chipped in 14.

"Tanner did a good job of taking it to the rim," Mitchell said. "Gimmaka just did a nice job of being aggressive."

The Pioneers (0-15, NWC 0-8) face Anacortes on Tuesday, Jan. 28, on the road.
