Lyncs roll to win despite lack of rhythm

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 25, 2014

Despite struggling to get in a groove, Lynden Christian's boys' basketball team earned a 61-53 win over Friday Harbor on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Lynden Christian High School. The Lyncs were led by Zach Roetcisoender's 18 points in the win.

"In an afternoon game without rhythm or flow, I was proud of how our guys found a way to gut it out," Lynden Christian coach Roger De Boer said in a phone interview. "Grant Wolffis was in foul trouble for most of the game, and Jake Poag's four 3-pointers helped pick up the offensive load."

Poag finished with 13 points in the game. Cody Fransen also had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Josiah Meppelink added nine points and a team-high five assists.

Another key to the Lyncs' win was shooting 9 of 10 from the free-throw line in the second half, De Boer said. They finished 20 of 26 from the charity stripe.

Lynden Christian takes on Sedro-Woolley at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at home.
