VanLaanen finishes seventh in X-Games tune-up for Sochi

Bellingham-born Olympian Angeli VanLaanen finished seventh in the X-Games Women's Superpipe competition on Friday, Jan. 24, at Aspen, Colo.

VanLaanen's second run score of 70.00 was her top mark.

Team USA teammate Maddie Bowman won the gold medal with a score of 88.66, Canadian Roz Groenewoud took the silver with an 85.66 and France's Marie Martinod took the bronze with an 82.33. Brita Sigourney, who also will represent the United States in the Sochi Winter Olympics next month, finished fifth with a score of 77.00.

Friday marked the fourth time VanLaanen had competed in the X-Games. She finished eighth in 2007, 11th in 2008 and sixth in 2009 before having to take three years off to be treated for Lyme disease.
