Stout defense helps Ferndale girls top Nooksack Valley

Ferndale's girls' basketball team forced 28 turnovers by Nooksack Valley, and earned a 54-35 Northwest Conference victory Friday, Jan. 24, at Nooksack Valley. Hannah Carlson led the Golden Eagles with 14 points, 12 of those coming in the first quarter.

"They were trapping us and we just struggled to find the open man," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview.

Twenty-two of the Pioneers' 28 turnovers came in the first half.

Brianna Turner led Nooksack Valley with nine points. Cheyanna Maxwell added four points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Nooksack Valley looks to rebound against Anacortes on Monday, Jan. 27, at home. Ferndale plays next on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at home against Squalicum.
