Lynden girls topped twice during rough day

Lynden's girls' wrestling team struggled with getting down to weight before the matches and those struggles continued as the Lions lost both matches on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Burlington-Edison High School. The first loss came to Mount Vernon with a final score of 42-12 and the second was a 44-24 loss to Burlington-Edison.

"It was a pretty tough day," Lynden coach Santos Gallegos said in a phone interview. "We started out the day with five girls working down to weight. There's nothing you can do about that. You just got to roll with the punches. Obviously we had a bad day and the girls know that."

Emily Gallegos and Kara Bowman both stood out to Gallegos despite the losses.

"We bumped Emily up a class and she lost but rose to the occasion," Gallegos said. "Kara Bowman is someone, who isn't going to give up. She's going to push herself."

Gallegos and Bowman both split their matches.
