WCC men sneak by Everett

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 22, 2014

Whatcom Community College's men's basketball team pulled out a close 81-77 victory over NWAACC north region opponent Everett on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Kyle Impero paced the Orcas with 28 points, but four other players scored in double figures for WCC.

"It was a very tough game, it's always tough playing against Everett," WCC coach David Dunham said in a phone interview. "It didn't help our case that we had more than 20 turnovers and missed 17 free throws. Sometimes you have to be happy to get out with a win."

Among the double-figure scorers was Eric Fongue, who also led the team with 10 rebounds. The Orcas outrebounded Everett 47-37.

Alex Duncan neared a double-double, as he recorded 12 points and seven assists.

"We had solid performances, the main things that hurt us were turnovers and free throws," Dunham said.

WCC took a six-point lead into halftime, but 21 WCC turnovers kept Everett in the game.

The Orcas move to 5-1 in the NWAACC and are just a half game back of Skagit Valley after WCC has won its last four games.
