BELLINGHAM - A celebration of the "reconveyance," or transfer of 8,844 acres of forest land around Lake Whatcom from the state to Whatcom County for use as a park, is set for Saturday, Jan. 25.

The event, which is open to the public, is 1 to 3 p.m. in the Community Building at Bloedel Donovan Park, 2214 Electric Ave.

Refreshments and educational materials will be offered. There will be a program at 2 p.m., including remarks from public officials.

Whatcom Land Trust, Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition, Cascade Mountain Runners, and Conservation Northwest are hosting the event.

Organizers said the event is family friendly.
