Baker learns lesson in loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 21, 2014

Mount Baker's girls' basketball team couldn't get going offensively and fell to Burlington-Edison 64-37 on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Burlington-Edison High School.

"We just couldn't get anything started," Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "We had no offensive rhythm in the first half."

Burlington-Edison capitalized and took an 11-point lead into the lockers.

"Against a team like Burlington, you can't keep making mistakes back to back," Ellis said.

The Baker offense got started in the second half, but Burlington-Edison caught fire, scoring 42 points in the half.

"As a whole, we kickstarted the second," Ellis said. "Good to see us come back and do the right thing, make those good decisions and the girls saw that too, even though we lost."

The Mountaineers were led by Emily Brandland's 11 points and Emily Yost's 9 rebounds.

Baker (7-7, NWC 3-3) plays Lynden on Thursday, Jan. 23, at Mount Baker High School.
