Oettel sparks Nooksack Valley girls' win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 21, 2014

Squalicum's girls' basketball team couldn't knock down their shots and suffered a 51-42 Northwest Conference loss to Nooksack Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Squalicum. The Pioneers were led by Arlissa Oettel's 13 points.

"We had them down 17-4, but they had Oettel come in and she knocked down some shots," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "Meghan Lowry was tremendous. We were able to accent her efforts with Lissette Meza, but we have a difficult time complimenting her on the offensive end."

Lowry finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, all team highs for the Storm. Meza had 12 points, from her four 3-pointers.

Nooksack Valley plays next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at home against Ferndale. Squalicum travels to Sedro-Woolley for a 7:15 p.m. game Friday, Jan. 24.
