Bellingham girls keep Sedro-Woolley at bay for win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 20, 2014

Bellingham girls' basketball held off Sedro-Woolley and got a 61-51 win over the Cubs on Monday, Jan. 20, at Sedro-Woolley. The Red Raiders were led by Alyssa Porter's 12 points and seven rebounds.

"They got it within three or four going into the fourth. Then there were a couple key possessions when Ashley Spink got an offensive rebound and putback," Bellingham coach Ed Wissing said in a phone interview, describing how his team held off the Cubs.

Mikayela Nutting led Sedro-Woolley with 18 points, but 13 of those came in the third quarter before Bellingham kept her in check for the fourth.

"We tried in our zone to double-team her and limit her looks. We did a better job in the fourth keeping her off the glass," Wissing said.

Spink finished 3 for 6 from the field and 5-for-5 free throw shooting for 11 points. Michaela Knutson added eight more for Bellingham.

Bellingham plays again at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at home against Sehome.
