Lummi girls improve, but can't top Lopez

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 20, 2014

The Lummi girls' basketball couldn't get its revenge on Lopez after a loss last week, and took a 55-42 loss Monday, Jan. 20, at home. The Blackhawks were led by Treena Humphreys' 18 points.

"We were within four with four minutes to go and our girls just fouled out," Lummi coach Randy Kaui said in a phone interview. "We were in a lot of foul trouble at the end of the first half. We're getting a lot more competitive, the girls are playing more aggressive and knowledgeable."

Harley Ellenwood had nine points before fouling out, and Kylee Tomma had two points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Humphreys and Thelma Wall also fouled out for the Blackhawks.

"Harley has been stepping it up and Tomma played good defense," Kaui said.

Lummi plays next at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Tulalip Heritage.
