Pierce's shot in final seconds gives WCC men a win

Whatcom Community College's men's basketball team pulled off a 63-61 win over Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges rival Bellevue College on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Bellevue.

"There were nine lead changes and 10 ties throughout the game," WCC coach David Dunham said in a phone interview. "We were just able to continue to battle throughout the game."

Kyle Impero led the Orcas with 31 points and nine rebounds, and had a key assist on the game's deciding play.

"Kyle attacked the rim and they triple-teamed him, so we passed the ball out to Neilan Pierce who hit the layup with two seconds left," Dunham said, describing the play.

Pierce finished with nine points. Alex Duncan added five points and seven rebounds, and Quinton Whitfield had seven points and six rebounds.

WCC's next game is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at home against Everett.
