First-place Bellevue gives WCC women first region loss

The Whatcom Community College women's basketball team lost its first NWAACC North Region game on Saturday, Jan. 18, as it fell to Bellevue College 62-47. Bellevue, 5-0 in the north region, is the only team ahead of the Orcas (8-7, NWAACC 4-1).

Kortney Grattic led the Orcas with 15 points, but it was Alisha Friberg who stuffed the stat line. Friberg had eight points and led the team with 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Bellevue's Jori Hall, who's from Sehome High School, scored three points but had team highs of eight rebounds and five assists.

The Orcas only trailed by five at the half but a second-half surge from the Bulldogs stretched the lead despite only shooting 50 percent from the free-throw line during the game.

WCC hits the hardwood again on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Whatcom Community College to take on Everett.
