Baker upsets Sedro-Woolley in overtime

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 17, 2014

Mount Baker's boys' basketball team iced the game at the free-throw line in overtime to steal a 61-55 win over Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Jan. 17, a day after losing to the Cubs by 12 points.

"We just did a great job coming back to compete after a tough loss," Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview.

The Mountaineers took the early lead but the Cubs fought back in the fourth to force overtime. The extra period almost didn't happen when Andrew Zender stole the ball with four seconds to go, went the length of the court, but got his shot blocked at the buzzer.

Baker went 12 of 16 from the line in overtime to seal the win.

"It took a lot of focus and a lot of competitive drive to not give in to the pressure," Gray said.

The Mountaineers (3-10, NWC 2-4) stay at home to face Burlington-Edison on Monday, Jan. 20.
