Red Raiders fall without Hayes in lineup

With the Bellingham boys' basketball team's leading scorer, Kailen Hayes, sidelined with a sprained ankle, the Red Raiders were unable to rally as they fell to Anacortes 74-53 on Friday, Jan. 17, at Bellingham High School.

"We missed that scoring," Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "He got hurt on the last play of practice so we had planned on him playing, but I'm proud of the way we fought."

Tristan Hurley and Ryan Fox both contributed 11 points apiece, but weren't able to keep up with Anacortes' Andrew Medalia, who tallied 22.

"I thought we had a good plan," McKay said. "We really attacked and that manifested with 30 attempts at the line."

The Red Raiders (6-8, NWC 1-5) take on Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Bellingham High School.
