Yost leads Mount Baker girls to big win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 16, 2014

Four players scored in double figures for the Mount Baker girls' basketball team, as the Mountaineers rolled to a 78-37 Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Mount Baker High School.

Emily Yost led the Mountaineers with 27 points and nine rebounds. Emily Brandland added 16 points and three assists.

"Emily Yost got in foul trouble early on, so we didn't have her for a good portion of the first half," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "The girls are still learning to work together and play four quarters of basketball, to be mentally tough for four quarters. ... They did a good job of it tonight. They played as a team and kept their heads in it."

Ellis said the Mountaineers' starters all found foul trouble in the first half, with the exception of Brandland, who had 12 of her points in the first half.

Kylee Engholm and Jessa Baisden each added 10 points for Mount Baker (7-6, 3-2 NWC).

Mount Baker will look for another win on Thursday, Jan. 23, when the Mountaineers host Lynden.
