Squalicum boys' defense stifles Blaine

Squalicum's boys' basketball team forced Blaine into 29 turnovers as the Storm claimed an 80-50 win over the Borderites in Northwest Conference play Thursday, Jan. 16, at Squalicum High School.

Blake Youtsey led the Storm with 24 points and seven rebounds.

"I thought we shared the ball really well. We caused a lot of turnovers in the first half," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "Luke Weber played very well tonight and our bench contributed nicely as well. Josh Vail, Noah Westerhoff, Alijah Garcia and Creighton Kaui all came in and played really well."

Weber added 13 points for the Storm. Westerhoff and Kaui each had seven points for Squalicum (6-6, 2-3 NWC).

Shaq Woods led Blaine with 12 points and seven rebounds. Sean Herrig added 11 and Josiah Westbrook had 10 for the Borderites, who fell to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the NWC.

Squalicum plays next at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Nooksack Valley. Blaine's next game is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at home against Sehome.
