Pair arrested in knifepoint robbery of Bellingham cab driver

BELLINGHAM - Two people suspected of robbing a taxi driver at knifepoint Tuesday, Jan. 14, were arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

Patrick Aaron Schaeffer, 27, and Tiana Marie Milazzo, 20, were booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery after police were able to connect them to the robbery. Schaeffer also was booked on suspicion of heroin possession.

The pair called Yellow Cab to get a ride from the Aloha Motel on Samish Way to the 1800 block of Texas Street Tuesday evening. When the cab got to the Texas Street area at about 6:40 p.m., Schaeffer pulled out a knife and held it to the driver's neck, threatening to kill him if he didn't give them money, according to police. The couple ran from the cab after getting cash from the driver, and police were unable to track them using a police dog.

During the robbery, the driver received a 2-inch cut to the left side of his neck, though the injury was not life-threatening.

Detectives returned to the motel where the couple was picked up and were able to learn their identities through the motel owner. The pair was located at the apartments at 1800 Texas St. and were arrested at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Schaeffer has a long list of appearances in Whatcom County District Court and municipal courts, including drug and driving-related arrests.
