Trojans still finding way after forfeit

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 15, 2014

Meridian's boys' wrestling team was forced to forfeit the varsity match on Wednesday, Jan. 15, to Burlington-Edison after the injury bug bit the few wrestlers the Trojans had.

First-year wrestlers Nathan Parr, Taylor Johnson, Skyler Smith, Chris Poortinga and Treven Elgersma all wrestled in the junior varsity meet. They all ended with losses.

"Meridian is still finding its way," coach Fred Pulphus said in a phone interview. "They are hanging in there. I love these kids and wouldn't trade them for the world."

Meridian (0-8) will look to get back on the mat on Saturday, Jan. 18, in the NWC Tournament at Sehome High School.
