Blaine falls in close battle to Sedro

The Sedro-Woolley boys' wrestling team defeated Blaine 36-30 on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Blaine High School.

Several of the matches were decided by close decisions that favored the Cubs. Jacob Ferrell pulled out a 6-3 win over Christian Sharp, and Nate Vaughn edged Tristan Hunter 7-6.

"You didn't have a ton of pins," Blaine coach Craig Foster said in a phone interview. "It was a close, tough battle."

Stuey Rasar started the Borderites off with a pin. Kyle Gonzales, a returning state competitor for Blaine, defeated his opponent handidly, 14-4. Riley Fritsch also took care of his opponent, winning by way of major decision, 13-1.

"Stuey started us off well," Foster said. "It was a really good win."

The Borderites will be in action next at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Sehome High School in the Northwest Conference Championships.
