Johnson shines in Lions' win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 14, 2014

Lynden's Michael Johnson won two individual events and helped two winning relays as the Lions' boys' swimming team topped Burlington-Edison 98-71 on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Fidalgo Pool.

Johnson won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Lynden coach Steve Gibb said Johnson could reach an automatic state qualifying time in the 100 backstroke before the regular season ends on Tuesday, Jan. 21, if he continues to improve in the 100 backstroke.

"A lot of times equaled our best times," Gibb said. "Considering that we have been training heavily, that was good."

The Lions (1-4) are back in the pool again on Thursday, Jan 16, at the Lynden YMCA in their penultimate regular season meet.
