Knutson leads late charge as Bellingham girls beat Squalicum

The Bellingham girls' basketball team broke out after sluggish first half for both teams and earned a 53-44 victory Monday, Jan. 13, at Squalicum High School in Northwest Conference action.

Michaela Knutson led the Red Raiders with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, most of which she hit in the second half. Squalicum coach Mark Wright characterized them as "painful" 3-pointers.

Alyssa Porter had 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Red Raiders, who improved to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in conference.

Meghan Lowry had 13 points and four assists for Squalicum, who fell to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Sarah Hulbert added 10 points for the Storm and Shaunee Hooper pulled down 15 rebounds.

Squalicum plays a 7:15 p.m. game Thursday, Jan. 16, at Blaine, and Bellingham is at Anacortes at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. Both games are conference games.
