Sundance short films coming to Pickford

A collection of eight films from the 2013 edition of The Sundance Film Festival Short Films plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 9 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday, Jan. 17-19, 2014, at The Pickford Film Center, 1318 Bay St. In "The Date," which won the jury prize for international fiction, Tino's manhood is put to the test in front of two women when he has to host a date for Diablo, the family’s stud cat.

Pickford Film Center will screen eight Sundance Film Festival short films from the 2013 festival at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 9 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday, Jan. 17-19, at the center, 1318 Bay St.

The shorts include fiction, documentary and animation, with five award winners among them.

With no rules, the short film serves as a proving ground for young filmmakers to make their mark and for established filmmakers to take risks in story and style.
