Gonzales stars for Blaine in Panther Classic

The Blaine boys' wrestling team finished in third place despite a shorthanded squad during the 16-team Panther Classic on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Snohomish High School.

Kyle Gonzales was the only winner for the Borderites, as he stormed through the field with two pins and two wins by technical falls.

"He had a fantastic tournament," coach Craig Foster said in a phone interview.

Billy Dodd (120), Christian Sharp (152) and Mikey Antczak (285) were the second-place finishers for Blaine. Sharp lost in overtime in his final match.

With such a strong field, Foster knows his team gained confidence from competing (and succeeding) with the best.

"We had some of our best guys here," Foster said. "We showed we're right there with some of the best schools."

The Borderites had a total of nine wrestlers who placed.
