Lynden girls' basketball beats No. 8-ranked White River

Double-doubles from Elisa Kooiman and Stephanie Somers led the Lynden girls' basketball team to a 49-32 win over No. 8 White River on Saturday, Jan. 11, at White River High School.

Kooiman had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Somers had team-highs of 12 points and 13 rebounds.

"We played with a lot of great energy," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "Our bench was key. (Jasmyne) Neria, (Kira) Nelson and (Holly) McKinley valued the basketball. They didn't put us in tough spots and extended really well."

Kaitlyn Mark added 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and two assists for the Lions.

"Today was our best effort on the defensive end," Adams said.

Lynden forced 21 White River turnovers.

Lynden's next game is at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Lynden Christian.
