Meridian girls outlast Squalicum

Taylor Lunde made two clutch free throws with her Meridian girls' basketball team up by two and two seconds left to seal a 56-52 win over Squalicum on Friday, Jan. 10, at Meridian High School. The Trojans were led by Ryley Zapien's 27 points in the Northwest Conference victory.

Meghan Lowry had 23 points and 16 rebounds for Squalicum.

"Lowry is a really good player. She had a great night, it was hard to keep her off the glass," Meridian coach Mark Gilmore said in a phone interview.

Lunde had eight points and nine rebounds for Meridian. Gilmore said Lowry and Zapien were trading baskets all night.

"Neither Lowry not Ryley left the floor. We ran a lot of stuff for Ryley, a few pick-and-rolls, tried to get her in the lane to the basket," Gilmore said. "We just outlasted them."
