105 drivers stopped for possible DUI in Whatcom, San Juan counties

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 10, 2014

Law enforcement officers stopped 105 motorists in Whatcom and San Juan counties on suspicion of driving under the influence between Nov. 27, 2013, and Jan. 1, 2014, as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

This is down from 121 such incidents during the same time in 2012.

For the entire state, 2,723 drivers were pulled over for possible DUI, according to campaign results released by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The Bellingham and Western Washington University police departments were among seven law enforcement agencies that stepped up drunk driving patrols during the holidays, according to the WTSC.

The safety commission gave a grant to fund extra patrols to look for impaired drivers.
