Parson and Gardner impress despite Nooksack loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 8, 2014

The Burlington-Edison girls' wrestling team defeated Nooksack Valley 48-22 on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Nooksack Valley High School.

Chloe Gardner, who wrestled out of the 137-pound weight class, recorded a quick pin of her opponent, Courtney Johnson. For Gardner, who finished third at the Mat Classic last season, the goal has always been to work toward state, and that is exactly what coach Chad Parson is seeing from his senior standout.

"We're starting to focus in now on what we're going to do in the postseason," Parson said in the phone interview.

The Pioneers' Alex Parson also secured a tough, hard-fought win against the Tigers' Hannah Holmes. She won by points in three rounds, 15-3.

"Holy cow she had a tough match," Chad Parson said. "Alex has tied all of her technique together and is so quick on her feet."

Ashley Loreen and Candace Rodriguez were the only other Nooksack wrestlers to secure wins.
