Nooksack boys' wrestling handles Meridian

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJanuary 8, 2014

The Nooksack Valley boys' wrestling team won all five of its matches against Meridian in an exhibition wrestling match Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Meridian High School.

Felix Rojas, Chris Forsee, Elijah Rohde and Jared Parson all secured wins by way of pin and Kalub Cude defeated his opponent, Treven Elgersma, 9-5.

Rohde, despite securing the pin, was losing his match to Skyler Smith 13-6 in one of his first varsity matches.

"Elijah went out a little nervous," said Nooksack assistant coach Mick O'Bryan in a phone interview. "He went out there and fought off his back. ... That's going to be a huge confidence booster."

Cude's win over Elgersma was also a show in stamina as both wrestlers traded takedowns throughout the match.

"Kalub outmaneuvered him and outhustled him," O'Bryan said. "He had more gas in the tank at the end."
